MPS Spotlight: Christine Steffens

MPS Spotlight Christine Steffens

If you ask Christine Steffens, she’ll tell you the best part about working at Mobile Pro Systems is that she’s constantly learning and every day has its own challenge and lesson. Christine was introduced to Mobile Pro Systems by her good friend Brian Sauerer who recognized that Christine would make an excellent technical support and service team member. After having her on board for nearly three years, we can tell you Brian was absolutely right! We asked Christine to tell us more about her life when she’s not providing top-notch support for our customers:

Have you always lived in Minnesota? My parents and two older sisters all reside in eastern Wisconsin, where I grew up. I was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and moved to Minnesota in 2009, so I’ve lived here for 14 years.

What do you like best about living and working here?  Minnesota is incredibly diverse – I love how the biome and terrain change as you travel across the state, and the metro is a melting pot of so many wonderful cultures.

What is your favorite activity outside of work? Geocaching – it shows me so many interesting things and places I never would have known about otherwise. I am a very experience-oriented person. Geocaching also combines well with my other two favorite hobbies: photography and hiking.

What’s the most interesting place you’ve visited? I love traveling but have mostly only traveled in the upper Midwest. I’d like to visit Norway someday. My favorite interesting place in Minnesota is Franconia Sculpture Park which has 50 acres of interactive outdoor sculptures to explore.

Volunteer work? I volunteered at the Darvan Acres Avian Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.

Name 5 things most people don’t know about you and would probably be surprised to learn…

1. I probably have way too many houseplants. My favorite is the tree rose that I pulled out of a dumpster, it’s incredible when it blooms.

2. I have a soft spot for ’80s Turbo Mopars and have owned several, including an ’88 Dodge Lancer Shelby.

3. I used to milk cows for a living and still miss watching the sun rise while bringing them in for morning milking.

4. Medical science fascinates me, especially veterinary medicine. When I was a kid I wanted to be a veterinarian.

5. In 2012 I was involved in a work accident at a former workplace that broke half my ribs and punctured a lung. Life is much better these days.

What draws you to working with people in a technical support setting? Two things: The ability to positively affect someone’s day, and learning – I learn so much by helping.

What impression do you hope to leave with each customer who calls in? That we’re actual people who care about our customers and want to help them. Each technical call is a unique adventure, but I think the thing that strikes me the most – even a few years into this – is how genuine and grateful our customers are. Technical support has a reputation for being cold and dehumanized, but I’ve never felt that here.

In each MPS Spotlight, we shine a light on a Mobile Pro Systems team member to express our gratitude for their outstanding contributions, and so you can get to know our wonderful employees like we do.
