Super Bowl security personnel made necessary increases and adjustments that took into account last year’s deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas and a recent increase in “lone wolf” attacks such as the Boston Marathon bombing and numerous vehicle-ramming, crowd attacks. Personnel also took strict measures to prepare for unruly fans and facilitate crowd safety. Prior to the big event, Minneapolis Police Commander Scott Gerlicher confidently announced that they were “absolutely ready for anything that may come [their] way.”
Super Bowl LIVE – a 10-day fan festival leading up to the big game – consisted of concerts and attractions within a one-mile radius in downtown Minneapolis.
Naturally, extensive security measures were put in place to secure and protect the area as well as each individual event. Independent contractor Floyd Security assisted with security for a temporary zip line attraction that ran between the banks of the Mississippi with the use of their Mobile Pro Systems Commander 3400 Video Surveillance trailer.
On another front and in order to accommodate the influx of cellular demand, Super Bowl LIVE sponsor Verizon utilized three Mobile Pro Systems “cellular on wheels” or C.O.W. towers. These towers boosted cellular capability and their unobtrusive design allowed for strategic positioning in the midst of high-traffic operations without fanfare.

Utility company break-ins are on the rise which poses a great threat to our national electrical grid. Although the electrical grid is regulated by the federal government –both by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) – the responsibility falls on the private sector to protect and maintain its infrastructure.
Break-ins may be as simple as copper theft or as malicious as intentional sabotage but both of these scenarios compromise power reliability. Because of the way substations are linked together – if they are hit simultaneously – widespread blackouts could occur and threaten millions of individual households as well as our national security. Utility companies are doing a great job with limited available funds. Unfortunately, more attention is directed to network security rather than physical security.
Security Compromised at Western Electrical Substations
On April 16, 2013, a substation near San Jose, California was hit by sniper fire which interrupted power to 17 transformers that feed electricity to Silicon Valley. Then, the Wall Street Journal reports that on November 5, 2013, the Liberty substation – 35 miles west of Phoenix, Arizona – was ransacked in an attack that continued for two and a half days. This attack at the Liberty substation revealed severe security deficiencies of the physical location and therefore the control systems as well. It was after this first security breech that more proactive security measures were implemented on-site. When the Liberty substation came under attack for a second time on January 30, 2014, the intruders attempted to regain access but were deterred by a MPS security trailer’s cameras and lights that they were unable to shut down and their second destructive mission was averted.

Video is an excellent reliable witness, especially in the dark of night and in remote spots where you don’t have any feet on the ground. While the presence of a video camera is a helpful deterrent to criminal activities, the actual video footage captured can assist with investigation, evidence, prosecution, and frequently even convictions.
Imagine relying on a device like Mobile Pro’s Defender 6000, a camera pod security system that acts as your eyes on the job-site. With 24/7 live video streaming capabilities, professional video recording system, and motion detectors protecting a 40+ foot radius with PIR (Passive Infrared) detectors, it’s the next best thing to being there.
Quality Imagery is Essential for Video Evidence
It’s hard to argue with video documentation, but of course, lawyers do. Mobile Pro products use the highest level of resolution and the lowest light cameras to ensure that recorded imagery provides the most identifiable video possible. The Defender 6000 uses an 8MP multi-camera array to provide a 180˚panoramic view of the area.
Is Technology Superior to Human Observation?
In a 2017 article titled The Trouble with Eyewitness Identification Testimony in Criminal Cases, the National Center for State Courts observes, “although witnesses can often be very confident that their memory is accurate when identifying a suspect, the malleable nature of human memory and visual perception makes eyewitness testimony one of the most unreliable forms of evidence.”
Bottom line: High-quality video footage is a tremendously useful tool in fighting vandalism, theft, and even employee mischief.
Other Benefits of Camera Security Systems
Current technology, like that of Mobile Pro’s Defender 6000, delivers more than just video footage, it offers a defense to your property. We also provide the ability to set up and manage notifications that can be displayed on the monitor or sent immediately to email and SMS. This way, you stay notified of your system’s operational status, along with unwanted access to your site through motion detectors and video alarms.
Remote video access also allows users to search through historical video, and capture and send recorded video. Alarms and notifications can also be managed remotely.
Video Never Sleeps
A properly administered video camera security system doesn’t take breaks or vacation, require a paycheck or doze off on the job. If you’re ready to boost your peace of mind and protect expensive equipment and property.
Deterrence is the best Defense
Placing the Defender 6000 at a site can provide an effective defense against unwanted activities at the location. The system uses both infrared and video motion detection to sense if someone is within the protected area. Once motion is detected, the system issues several deterrence methods, including flooding the area with light, flashing strobes and audio messages. As the event is being processed, snapshots and other information are being collected and sent for video validation to determine if additional action needs to be taken.
